Ms. Burnett is the President
of Kai Productions, a communication consulting firm. Prior to this she was
Chairman of the Board and co-creator of Count-Me-In for Women's Economic Independence,
the first on line micro-lending organization in the world.
She was a professor
at American University's School of Communication and has more than 25 years
experience as a communication
professional in politics, media, government, academia, and the private sector.
Until 1998, Burnett was the Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications
Public Affairs and Government Relations for the Sci-Fi Channel and USA Network.
She created the Corporate Communications office and managed all the media relations,
government affairs, and public affairs.
Among her other achievements she designed, developed, and implemented "Erase
the Hate", an award winning national campaign to promote understanding
and respect for individual differences.
Before joining USA Networks, Burnett
served as Chief of Staff at the United States Information Agency (USIA) the
billion dollar public diplomacy arm of the U.S. Government. Her responsibilities
included oversight of the budget and
personnel, developing, supervising, and evaluating world wide policies, conducting
special negotiations, assignments, and consultations with foreign governments.
She also served as the primary communication channel to Congressional Members,
the White House, the Cabinet, the private sector and other government agencies.
During her tenure at USIA Burnett helped to create the White House Women's Office
and the President's Interagency Council for Women. In addition, she served
as both an official delegate to the United Nations Commission on the
Status of Women and an official delegate to the U.N. Fourth World Conference
on Women in Beijing, where she directed communications for the delegation,
including the congressional delegation and the White House.
She is the Founder
and President of Kai Productions, a strategic communications firm. She
has played key roles in five presidential campaigns, been political advisor
to two Presidents and many elected officials. She was
the Director of the International Visitor Program at the Department of
State, as well as the Director of Special Events for the city of Boston
during the Bicentennial.
Her political experience includes a Presidential
appointment as the Director of Security for the 1980 Democratic Convention,
she remains the first and only woman to serve in this capacity for a National
Political Convention. She was the Executive Director of "Debates '92" and
the Executive Director of the Coordinated Campaign Special Events Operation
in 1992.
Burnett is the author of the new political novel "Which way to
the White House?" She serves on the Board of Directors of the Erase
the Hate Foundation, on the National Advisory Board of Count Me In for Women's
Economic Independence
and on the Board of Governors of the United Services Organization (USO).
