In
the meantime, we’ve given out dozens of loans since our last
newsletter – meet
three women who wanted to share their stories with you:
New Businesses Open! Kathryn
Todd – Midland, PA
Prior to starting her Accounting business, Kathryn was the CPA for
a small not-for-profit
organization that assisted small businesses. In April 2000, she had a car
accident that instantly changed her life. Kathryn wasn’t able to
return to her job within her employer’s time frame so they let her go. The
only resources she had were her accounting abilities, her contacts, support from
her family and friends and her determination. With them, she opened her
own business specializing in accounting for small businesses and business start-ups. Her
business recently passed the three-year mark. Kathryn’s loan from
Count Me In will help her business expand.
Anne Gullia – Solon, Ohio
Last year, Anne quit her job in sales at a local production company
and joined her husband who was working in Chicago. Pregnant with
their third child,
Anne took several photography courses and hand-painted the photographs
of the children she met in the parks. Twelve years had passed
since she first
captured a black and white photograph of her own child, enlarged it
and hand painted it. When her family returned to Ohio, she was
amazed by the number
of people who liked her photos with the hand-painted images and decided
to pursue photography as a business. Her loan from Count Me In
will be used to upgrade
her equipment and pay for office and advertising materials.

Rose
Davis – Central Islip, NY
In the late 1990s, less than 30% of minorities owned computers so
Rose opened TOTLEY’s to
sell computers on a rent-to-own basis. As time passed, she realized
that a large majority of her community
were still being left behind
technologically. So she decided to set up an Internet Café to
provide them with access to computers and computer training. Her loan
from Count
Me In will be used to add the computer training center to her Internet
Café.
